Alabama’s First INVOcell Baby

We are excited to announce that the first baby in the state conceived with help from INVOcell, a new fertility treatment, was born at DCH Northport in late September. Alabama Fertility Specialists was the first fertility clinic in Alabama to offer INVOcell, and an article and video from WBRC explains more.

The son of Michelle and Chase White, Peter Anthony White, was 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 19 inches long. He and mom are both happy and healthy after his September 27th arrival. With his arrival, he brought hope for couples struggling to get pregnant.

The Whites tried to get pregnant for two years before meeting our own Dr. Beth Malizia. We gave them to opportunity to use INVOcell, a device that is about half the cost of traditional IVF and can be twice as effective at achieving a natural pregnancy.

Dr. Malizia was the first reproductive endocrinologist in Alabama to be trained in using the INVOcell device, and she says it’s a “middle of the road option.”

Approved by the FDA in 2015, INVOcell places eggs retrieved from the mother into a small plastic device with sperm. The device is then inserted into the mother’s vagina. Rather than growing an embryo in an expensive lab, the mother then acts as the incubator. After several days, the device is removed, and if an egg was fertilized, it is then placed back into the mother’s uterus. The method is a gentler approach to fertility treatment than IVF which requires more medications, more frequent doctor visits, and additional expenses.

We are so happy for the White family, and we can’t wait to see more babies born as a result of INVOcell. To see the full article and video from WBRC, click here.

At Alabama Fertility, we treat all patients with the care and compassion that complex reproductive issues require. If you are interested in learning more about INVOCell or any other treatment options, we encourage you to ask your doctors and nurses at Alabama Fertility as many questions as you need to in order to find out more.
