For women who are not ovulating (releasing eggs) properly, medications can be used to stimulate the growth and release of eggs. Options for treatment include oral medications such as clomiphene citrate (Clomid) or letrozole (Femara) or FSH injections. Response to the medications will be measured using either home ovulation predictor kits or monitoring in the office using ultrasounds and blood hormone levels.
An intrauterine insemination (IUI) involves the processing of a semen sample so that it can safely be placed through the cervix into the uterine cavity using a small catheter. This office procedure is relatively painless and helps increase the chances of treatment success by allowing more sperm to reach the fallopian tube where it can fertilize the egg.
For same-sex couples or men with low sperm counts, donor sperm insemination (donor IUI) is often an effective way to achieve pregnancy. We work with a number of national sperm banks that provide both a good selection of sperm donors and excellent sample quality to maximize the chances of success with this treatment.
For couples with fallopian tube dysfunction, severe male infertility or prior vasectomy, early menopause or those who have not been successful with other treatment, our practice offers the full range of Advanced Reproductive Technologies.
